Alicia has a diverse educational background and a passion for facilitating learning. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Asian Studies from Vassar College and went on to complete a Master’s degree in International Relations and Environmental Management at Boston University. During her graduate studies, Alicia focused her research on integrating environmental standards into international trade agreements, showcasing her dedication to sustainable practices on a global scale.
In addition to her academic achievements, Alicia holds a secondary social studies teaching certification from the University of New England, demonstrating her commitment to education. One significant aspect of Alicia's teaching experience is her work in special education, where she facilitated learning of children with diverse needs. This role has taught her the importance of differentiation in education, emphasizing the need to tailor instruction to individual learning styles and abilities. Her love for teaching extends beyond traditional classrooms, as she has experience in various teaching roles. From instructing tennis and teaching English to 7th-grade students in Czechoslovakia to serving as an adult and junior sailing instructor and eventually as the director of sailing programs, Alicia has a rich background in fostering learning environments.
Alicia's professional journey also includes valuable experience in environmental consulting, particularly in climate change-related programs. This exposure has given her a profound appreciation for the interconnectedness of environmental issues and reinforced the importance of instilling this awareness in her teaching practices.
Despite having lived in various places, Alicia firmly believes that Maine holds a special place in her heart. Her deep connection to the state is evident in her assertion that Maine is the most special place to live. She cherishes the opportunity to sail in the summer and engage in outdoor sports during the winter, further highlighting her love for the unique and diverse experiences that Maine offers.
